The mattress surface must be antimicrobial, waterproof, and flame-retardant (e.g., BS 7177 compliance). Inspect for any cracks in the ABS plastic shrouds or rust on the powder-coated steel or aluminum frames, as these areas can harbor pathogens. Ensure the unit is compatible with hospital-grade disinfectants and that all seams are heat-sealed rather than stitched to prevent fluid ingress.

Another risk is shipping damage; since these are heavy mechanical items, improper crating can lead to hydraulic leaks or frame misalignment.
