For professional-grade watches, 316L Stainless Steel is the industry standard due to its corrosion resistance and hypoallergenic properties. If sourcing for luxury segments, consider Grade 5 Titanium or 904L Steel. Ensure the water resistance rating (ATM/BAR) is tested; for divers' watches, components must meet ISO 6425 standards. For crystals, Sapphire glass with Anti-Reflective (AR) coating is preferred over mineral glass for its superior scratch resistance.

Suppliers should ideally hold ISO 9001 certification for quality management. For products entering the EU, compliance with REACH regulations (regarding nickel release and lead content) is mandatory to avoid customs seizures. If the parts include luminous paint, ensure they use non-radioactive materials like Super-LumiNova, which complies with safety standards while providing high-performance glow.

Watch parts are highly sensitive to dust and microscopic defects. Implement a Pre-Shipment Inspection (PSI) focusing on AQL (Acceptable Quality Limit) 1.0 or 1.5. Demand that movements are tested for accuracy (seconds per day) and beat error using a timegrapher. Ensure the supplier uses anti-static and vacuum packaging to prevent oxidation and dust contamination during long-distance transit.

When negotiating, focus on tooling costs and sample lead times. For custom parts (OEM), clarify who owns the molds. Request a tiered pricing structure where the unit price drops as volume increases. Watch parts are small but high-value, making them targets for theft or damage. Use reputable express couriers (DHL, FedEx, or UPS) with full insurance coverage.
