It also improves wetting angles and reduces soldering defects like bridging or icicles, which is essential for high-density PCBAs used in automotive or medical electronics.

Always mandate a Pre-Shipment Inspection (PSI) conducted by a third-party agency (like SGS or Intertek). Request a video FAT (Factory Acceptance Test) where the supplier demonstrates the machine running a sample PCB. Ensure the contract specifies vacuum skin packaging and wooden crate reinforcement to prevent moisture corrosion and mechanical shock during sea freight.

Focus on the Total Cost of Ownership (TCO) rather than just the sticker price. Negotiate for a spare parts package (including extra nozzles, sensors, and heaters) to be included in the initial price. For complex installations, negotiate for on-site commissioning, but clarify in advance who covers the engineer's visa, travel, and accommodation costs.

Due to the weight and sensitivity of the equipment, FCL (Full Container Load) is highly recommended over LCL to minimize handling. Use Incoterms 2020: CIF or DAP if you want the supplier to handle the complexities of international freight and insurance. Ensure the supplier provides a HS Code (typically 8468.80) to accurately calculate import duties in your destination country.
