High-quality models should feature plank-on-frame construction rather than a solid block. Check for intricate detailing such as realistic deck textures, miniature navigation equipment, and hand-stitched upholstery in the cockpit areas.

If sourcing RC models, verify the waterproofing grade of the internal electronics and the use of brushless motors for better efficiency. For static display models, focus on the lighting integration (LEDs) and the quality of the display base and acrylic dust cover, which are essential for retail presentation and protection.

Ensure the products comply with EN71 (Europe) or ASTM F963 (USA) if they are classified as toys. For models containing batteries or electronic components, a CE certification, RoHS compliance, and MSDS (Material Safety Data Sheet) for the battery are mandatory. Additionally, verify that any wood used complies with FSC (Forest Stewardship Council) standards to avoid customs issues related to endangered timber.

Yacht models are extremely fragile. Insist on custom-fitted foam molds (EPS or EPE) and double-walled corrugated export cartons. For large-scale models, a wooden crate reinforcement is non-negotiable. Ensure the model is bolted to the base within the packaging to prevent movement during sea or air freight.

Start by requesting a sample order to inspect the fine details. Negotiate based on Total Cost of Ownership (TCO), including the cost of specialized packaging. For bulk orders, aim for a 30% deposit and 70% balance payment after a third-party pre-shipment inspection (PSI) to ensure the final quality matches the approved sample.

The primary risk is structural breakage and paint chipping. Mitigate this by using Trade Assurance services and hiring an inspector to perform a drop test on the packaging. Another risk is IP infringement; ensure the supplier has the authorization to replicate specific luxury yacht brands to avoid customs seizures.

For high-value, delicate models, Air Freight is preferred to minimize handling time and vibration. However, for bulk commercial stock, LCL (Less than Container Load) is cost-effective, provided the goods are palletized and shrink-wrapped with 'Fragile' and 'This Side Up' labels clearly visible in multiple languages.
