Cotton seed manufacturers

Cotton seeds are primarily categorized based on their end-use: Planting Seeds (Sowing), Oil Extraction, and Animal Feed. For planting, buyers must focus on germination rates (typically >80%) and genetic purity. For oil extraction, the oil content (ideally 18-25%) is the key metric. For animal feed, particularly for cattle, the focus is on protein content (around 20-23%) and fiber levels.

Buyers should demand a Certificate of Analysis (COA). Key parameters include Moisture Content (should be below 10% to prevent mold), Free Fatty Acids (FFA < 2% for oil grade), and Admixture/Purity levels (98% or higher). If purchasing for planting, ensure the seeds are delinted (acid or mechanical) to facilitate machine sowing and treated with fungicides/insecticides to protect early growth.

As an agricultural product, cotton seeds are strictly regulated. You must ensure the supplier provides a Phytosanitary Certificate issued by the exporting country's national plant protection organization. For many regions, a Non-GMO Certificate is mandatory unless specifically importing biotech varieties. Additionally, verify compliance with Aflatoxin limits (usually <20 ppb) to meet international safety standards for feed and food.

Calculate the Total Landed Cost, which includes the base price, ocean freight (usually shipped in 20ft or 40ft containers), and import duties. For oil seeds, evaluate the yield-to-price ratio; a slightly more expensive seed with 2% higher oil content often yields better ROI. For large-scale procurement, look for suppliers on Made-in-China.com who offer tiered pricing for 100+ ton orders, which can reduce unit costs by 10-15%.

The biggest risks are quality degradation during transit due to moisture and customs rejection due to pests or lack of proper documentation. To mitigate this, use desiccants in containers and specify hermetic packaging or PP woven bags. Always include a Pre-shipment Inspection (PSI) clause by a third party like SGS or Intertek to verify quality before the balance payment.

Focus negotiations on payment terms and quality guarantees. Request a Letter of Credit (L/C) for first-time large transactions to ensure security. Negotiate a price adjustment clause linked to global market indices if the contract spans several months. On Made-in-China.com, prioritize Diamond or Gold members who have a proven track record of international fulfillment.

Ensure all transactions are documented with a Proforma Invoice (PI) and a Sales Contract that clearly defines the Incoterms (FOB or CIF are standard). For shipping, Bulk Vessel is used for massive quantities, while Containerized Shipping is preferred for high-value planting seeds to prevent contamination. Always verify the import permit requirements of your specific country before the ship leaves the loading port.
