Lapsang souchong tea manufacturers

Authentic Lapsang Souchong is characterized by its unique smoky aroma derived from traditional pine wood smoking. Buyers should look for tightly twisted, dark leaves with a glossy finish. When brewed, the liquor should be a bright amber or deep orange-red color. The flavor profile must include a distinctive longan-like sweetness and a smooth, mellow finish without excessive astringency. High-grade 'Zheng Shan' varieties must originate from the Wuyi Mountain region in Fujian, China.

B2B buyers must ensure the tea meets Maximum Residue Limits (MRLs) for pesticides, which vary by destination (e.g., EU Regulation (EC) No 396/2005 or US FDA standards). Suppliers should ideally hold HACCP, ISO 22000, or FSSC 22000 certifications to guarantee food safety management. For organic markets, verify USDA Organic or EU Organic certifications. Additionally, ensure the packaging complies with food-grade material standards to prevent chemical migration.

Lapsang Souchong is a fully oxidized black tea, making it more stable than green tea. However, its smoky volatile oils are sensitive to environmental factors. It should be stored in airtight, opaque containers away from light, moisture, and strong odors. Under proper conditions, it can be stored for 24 to 36 months. Buyers should request vacuum-sealed aluminum foil packaging for bulk shipments to maintain the aromatic integrity during long-distance transit.

Traditional Lapsang Souchong is heavily smoked, appealing to niche markets and the European tea trade. However, the 'Unsmoked' (Fei Yan) version or the high-end Jin Jun Mei (made from buds) focuses on floral and honey notes, targeting premium retail consumers. Buyers should choose based on their target demographic: Smoked for classic tea blends and culinary use, and Unsmoked/Jin Jun Mei for high-end gift markets.

Always request pre-shipment samples from the same batch intended for the bulk order. Utilize third-party inspection services (like SGS or Bureau Veritas) to conduct random sampling and lab testing for moisture content and pesticide residues before the final payment. On Made-in-China.com, prioritize Audited Suppliers who have undergone verified on-site factory inspections.

Focus on long-term partnership potential rather than just the lowest price. In the tea industry, 'you get what you pay for.' Negotiate based on specific harvest seasons (Spring tea is usually premium). Discuss MOQ flexibility for trial orders; many suppliers will allow a smaller initial order if you agree to tiered pricing for future volume increases.

For high-value Lapsang Souchong, Air Freight is preferred to minimize exposure to humidity and temperature fluctuations. For large bulk orders via Sea Freight, ensure the use of moisture-proof desiccants within the container and request 'Top Stowage' to avoid crushing and proximity to heat sources. Ensure the Incoterms (e.g., FOB or CIF) clearly define the point of risk transfer.

Use secure payment methods such as Letters of Credit (L/C) for large volumes or Escrow-based payment services provided by reputable B2B platforms. Avoid direct transfers to private bank accounts. Ensure all specifications, including harvest date, grade, and packaging requirements, are explicitly stated in the Proforma Invoice (PI) and Sales Contract.
