Ursodeoxycholic acid manufacturers

As a pharmaceutical active ingredient (API), UDCA must adhere to strict pharmacopoeia standards such as USP (United States Pharmacopeia), EP (European Pharmacopoeia), or BP (British Pharmacopoeia). Buyers should prioritize suppliers with GMP (Good Manufacturing Practice) certification and a valid CEP (Certificate of Suitability) or DMF (Drug Master File) registration. These documents ensure the chemical purity, typically requiring a minimum assay of 98.5% to 101.0% on a dried basis.

The particle size distribution (micronization) is crucial; for oral solid dosage forms, a smaller particle size enhances bioavailability and dissolution rates. Additionally, check the impurity profile, specifically limiting related substances like lithocholic acid to less than 0.1% due to its hepatotoxicity. For health supplement grades, ensure the product is Non-GMO, Halal, and Kosher certified if targeting specific consumer markets.

Request a Stability Data Report from the manufacturer covering long-term and accelerated testing. UDCA is generally stable but should be stored in tight, light-resistant containers at controlled room temperature. Ensure the supplier provides a Certificate of Analysis (COA) for every batch, detailing the melting point (approx. 203°C to 206°C) and specific optical rotation to confirm identity and purity.

UDCA is primarily used by pharmaceutical manufacturers for treating gallstones and primary biliary cholangitis. It is also increasingly sourced by veterinary medicine producers for liver support supplements in pets and by nutraceutical companies for premium liver-detox formulations. Understanding the end-use helps in determining whether to source Pharma Grade or Food/Health Grade material.

UDCA is a regulated substance in many jurisdictions. You must verify if the product requires an Import License for Drugs in your country. Failure to provide the correct HS Code (typically 291819) and accompanying Health Certificates or GMP evidence can lead to customs seizure. Always consult with a customs broker familiar with API (Active Pharmaceutical Ingredients) regulations before finalizing the shipment.

Utilize the Audited Supplier status on Made-in-China.com to identify manufacturers that have undergone on-site verification by third-party agencies like SGS or Intertek. For payment, use Secured Trading Services to ensure funds are only released upon proof of shipment. It is highly recommended to request a pre-shipment sample for independent lab testing (HPLC analysis) before paying the bulk balance.

UDCA is typically packed in 25kg fiber drums with double PE internal bags. Ensure the supplier uses vacuum-sealed inner packaging to prevent moisture absorption during sea freight. For cross-border shipping, ensure the Material Safety Data Sheet (MSDS) is provided in English and matches the labeling on the drums to prevent delays during dangerous goods (DG) inspections, even though UDCA is generally classified as non-hazardous for transport.

Focus on volume-based pricing; price breaks often occur at the 100kg, 500kg, and 1-ton thresholds. If you are a long-term buyer, negotiate for annual procurement contracts to lock in prices against fluctuations in raw material costs (like bile acid starting materials). Additionally, ask for flexible payment terms (e.g., Net 30) after the third successful transaction to improve your cash flow.
