X ray protective manufacturers

The most critical specification is the Lead Equivalence (Pb), typically ranging from 0.25mmPb to 0.5mmPb. For high-exposure environments like interventional radiology, 0.5mmPb is the standard. Additionally, you must choose between traditional lead, lead-lite, or lead-free (non-lead) materials. Lead-free options are preferred for modern procurement due to their lighter weight (reducing musculoskeletal strain) and environmentally friendly disposal.

Products must strictly adhere to IEC 61331-1:2014 (determination of attenuation properties) and IEC 61331-3:2014 (protective clothing and eyewear). For the US market, FDA registration is mandatory, while the EU market requires CE marking (PPE Regulation 2016/425). Ensure the supplier provides a Declaration of Conformity and valid ISO 13485 certification for medical device quality management.

Request third-party attenuation test reports that verify the shielding effectiveness at different kVp levels (e.g., 60kV, 80kV, 100kV). For durability, check the outer fabric material; it should be waterproof, antibacterial, and easy to disinfect (typically PU or Oxford fabric). Ask the supplier about the internal multi-layer structure, as multiple thin layers offer better flexibility and crack resistance than a single thick layer.

Usage varies by clinical need: Thyroid shields are essential for protecting the sensitive thyroid gland; Gonad shields are used for patient protection; and Lead glass/mobile barriers are required for structural shielding. For B2B buyers, ensure that ergonomic designs (such as vest-and-skirt styles) are prioritized for staff who wear the gear for extended periods to distribute weight evenly.

Always request a pre-shipment inspection (PSI). You can hire a third-party agency to perform a random X-ray flaw detection test on the batch to check for internal cracks or 'pinholes' in the lead rubber. On Made-in-China.com, prioritize Audited Suppliers who have undergone on-site verification of their production capabilities.

Focus on warranty periods (typically 12-24 months) and after-sales replacement policies for core material degradation. Negotiate for customized labeling and sizing (Asian vs. Western sizing differs significantly). For bulk orders, aim for a 15-20% discount when exceeding 100 sets, and request free samples of the raw shielding material for independent lab testing.

Lead products are extremely heavy, which significantly impacts air freight costs. Sea freight (LCL or FCL) is usually the most economical method. Ensure the Harmonized System (HS) Code 9022.90 is used correctly. Be aware that some countries have strict environmental regulations regarding lead imports; ensure all packaging is robust to prevent deformation of the protective core during transit.
