Verify that the supplier provides RoHS (Restriction of Hazardous Substances) and REACH certifications to ensure the material is free from toxic heavy metals. If the ABS is intended for toys or food-contact surfaces, it must comply with EN71-3 or FDA standards. Always request a Material Safety Data Sheet (MSDS) for chemical transparency.

ABS is categorized into General Purpose, Flame Retardant, High Heat, and Electroplating grades. General Purpose is ideal for consumer electronics and toys, while Flame Retardant grades (meeting UL94 V-0 standards) are essential for automotive components and electrical enclosures to prevent fire hazards.

Request a Certificate of Analysis (COA) for each batch. Conduct a sample test to check for shrinkage rates and surface finish quality. For bulk purchases, it is advisable to use third-party inspection services to perform ash content tests, which can reveal if the supplier has added excessive fillers like calcium carbonate to reduce costs.

The biggest risks include material substitution (mixing recycled content into virgin resin) and moisture contamination during sea transit. Ensure the supplier uses moisture-proof, multi-layer vacuum packaging and provides a guarantee of origin to avoid anti-dumping duties that some regions impose on specific chemical exports.
