For water transport, the internal lining should be Cement Mortar Lining (compliant with ISO 4179) or Fusion Bonded Epoxy (FBE). The external coating must be Metallic Zinc (min. 130g/m²) followed by a layer of Bituminous Paint or Epoxy Coating (min. 70 microns). You must confirm the Flange Drilling Standard, such as PN10, PN16, PN25, or ANSI/ASME B16.5. The Pressure Rating (NP) of the bend must match or exceed the system's working pressure. Additionally, verify the Wall Thickness (Class K12 or C-Class) to ensure structural integrity under hydraulic surge.

Insist on a Hydrostatic Test Report (usually 1.5 times the working pressure) and a Hardness Test (Brinell hardness should be ≤230 HB). For the coating, request a Holiday Test to ensure there are no pinholes in the epoxy layer, and a Dimensional Inspection to verify the degree of the bend (e.g., 90°, 45°, 22.5°) is within tolerance.

Request a Material Test Certificate (MTC) to EN 10204 Type 3.1. Before shipping, hire a third-party inspector (like SGS or BV) to perform a Spheroidization Rate Test; the graphite should be in nodular form (Type I & II) to ensure the 'ductile' property. Avoid suppliers who cannot provide foundry heat numbers for each batch.

Focus on Total Cost of Ownership (TCO) rather than just the unit price. Negotiate based on Raw Material Indexing (pig iron prices) if placing large annual orders. Ask for bundled pricing if purchasing gaskets, bolts, and nuts together with the bends, and ensure the MOQ is based on weight (Tons) rather than pieces to optimize container loading.

DI bends are heavy and can damage each other during transit. Require Wooden Pallets or Crates (IPPC heat-treated) with plastic end caps to protect the flange faces and internal lining. Ensure the supplier uses steel strapping and cushioning materials between layers to prevent the coating from chipping, which leads to rapid corrosion.

Use Letters of Credit (L/C) for large orders or Trade Assurance services provided by reputable platforms like Made-in-China.com to protect your payment. Verify if your country imposes Anti-Dumping Duties (ADD) on Chinese iron castings, as this can significantly impact your landed cost. Always clarify Incoterms 2020 (e.g., FOB vs CIF) in the contract.
