Longer service life:HVOF carbide coatings deliver 3-10x the wear life of conventional hard chrome plating and 5-15x that of uncoated steel.
Replacement for hard chrome-A drop-in,environmentally compliant alternative to hexavalent-chromium plating, which is restricted under EU REACH and RoHS directives.
Superior hardness:Coating hardness from 450 HV (stainless steel) up to 1,100-1,500 HV (WC-CoCr carbides), far exceeding induction-hardened steel (approx. 400-600 HV).
High bond strength: Adhesion of 70-90 MPa (ASTM C633), ensuring the coating stays integral under high hydraulic pressure and cyclic loading.
Restoration capability: Rebuilds worn, undersized or scored rods to OEM geometry with controlled oversize (typically +0.10-0.25 mm) and final ground/polished finish.
Low friction, excellent sealing:Machined and lapped surface finishes of Ra 0.2-0.4 um give low coefficient of friction and superior seal life.
Corrosion protection: Metallurgically bonded barrier coatings (WC-CoCr, stainless steel, ceramic oxides) resist seawater, brine, chemicals and hydraulic-fluid attack.
Cost-effective salvage: Reclaims expensive components at a fraction (typically 30-60%) of new-part replacement cost.

Q:Can thermal spray fully replace hard chrome plating?
A:
Yes. HVOF WC-CoCr coatings have superior wear resistance, comparable or better corrosion resistance, and no hydrogen embrittlement or Cr6+ hazard. They are the recognized industrial substitute for hard chrome.
Q:How thick is the coating and how much diameter can be restored?
A:
Service coatings are typically 0.15-0.30 mm per side; restoration coatings can be up to about 2 mm per side. Finish grinding restores exact final diameter and tolerance.
Q:What surface finish can be achieved?
A:
Standard hydraulic-rod finish is Ra 0.2-0.4 um after grinding and lapping, giving low friction and excellent seal life.
Q:Will the coating peel off under hydraulic pressure?
A:
No. HVOF carbide coatings achieve bond strengths of 70-90 MPa (ASTM C633), well above the stresses experienced at the rod/seal interface.
Q:Can a bent, severely pitted or cracked rod be sprayed?
A:
For high-pressure hydraulic service, the coating is vacuum-impregnated with sealant to close residual porosity, ensuring a leak-tight, pressure-proof surface.
