This hinge lets the moving part of a sofa be tilted and locked at several angles. Its lower rod is surrounded by a coil spring that sits above a tapered tip.
The upper section of the unit is a ratchet joint that connects two flat mounting plates. These plates are screwed to the wooden frame of the headrest.
Each plate has small round holes and one elongated slot for the screws. The slots give some freedom to line the plates up with the frame holes.
The spring loaded lower rod is intended to be pushed into a socket in the sofa frame. The spring keeps tension on the fitting once the unit is installed.
Steel with bright plating gives the mechanism strength and corrosion resistance. The pair shown includes one closed hinge and one extended hinge to display the working joint.
