Uses oxy-fuel flame plus compressed air atomization. Gun design is straightforward, easy to operate and maintain.
Cheaper than arc spray, plasma, or HVOF systems. Good for small shops, maintenance teams, and field service.
Lightweight gun, no need for three-phase power. Can be used on bridges, tanks, pipelines, ships, and large structures on site.
Substrate temperature usually 95 to 205 deg C. Minimal distortion, no change to base metal heat treatment.
Wire feed is continuous and uniform. Compared with powder flame spraying, feeding is easier and deposition is more stable.
Metal wire melts fully at the tip; material utilization is commonly over 80 percent. Less loss than powder flame spray.
Atomizing air breaks molten wire into fine droplets, giving finer lamellae and better coating uniformity. Still not as dense as HVOF or arc spray, but better than powder flame spray.

Q:What is wire flame spraying?
A:
A thermal spray process. Metal or alloy wire is fed through a spray gun, melted by an oxy-acetylene or oxy-propane flame, and atomized by compressed air into fine droplets that are projected onto a pre-treated surface to form a coating.
Q:How is it different from powder flame spraying?
A:
Wire flame spraying uses solid or cored wire as feedstock, with continuous and stable feeding. Powder flame spraying uses powder. Wire process gives higher deposit efficiency and more uniform coating, while powder process supports ceramics and polymers.
Q:What materials can be sprayed as wire?
A:
Zinc, aluminum, Zn-Al alloy, copper, bronze, Babbitt, molybdenum, stainless steel, Ni-Cr alloy, Ni-Al composite wire, Monel, and some cored wires.
